A very good morning everybody! (: while waiting for lessons to start, i was actually looking at the materials my teacher, Ms Jean have posted which is on Viral marketing that i thought is pretty cool to share. because, i didn't even know there's such a place! a great day with great findings thanks to Ms Jean!
It is a ebook (i tink? it's PDF-ed).. from David Meerman Scott; THE NEW RULES OF VIRAL MARKETING. It is actually about how word of mouth spreads your ideas free.
Let's say you're in-charge of marketing a theme park. How would you market it? The first thing that comes into my mind is TV advertisement, Magazine/Newsapaper Advertising, Bus stop advertising.
I will say what comes into my mind its more of a traditional and EXPENSIVE way.
Let me share with you what I've found out!
Surprisingly, the vice president of new media and marketing at Universal Orlando Resort -- The Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park (by the way, do you know there's a such a place? :X i only know like today... ) only told 7 people. and the 7 people told tens of thousands people.
the people who were told first were actually the fans of Harry Potter. So did was how 7 = 350,000,000!
Because Gordon’s team launched The Wizarding World of Harry Potter through social media—putting fans first—they were able to run the entire promotion in-house, with a very small marketing budget (covering the Webcast infrastructure and the micro-site production) and a tiny development team. They did not hire an agency, and they did no widespread outbound media relations, no marketing stunts, no CEO conference call, and no expensive advertising.
From this, you actually see the benefits of developing a Microsite and choosing the "potential" people to spread to! and this is how amazing things can turn out if you analyse the target audience and STRATEGISE!
I cannot find the main site for the resort itself. and when i googled, i realise all the related main site are actually the fan site. So i will assume that Orlando resort only have their micro-site and the main site are actually from the fan sites! Here are the links! Do take a peep at it! :D
*last minute finding! I FOUND THE MAIN SITE!
